ABOUT THE BLOG

GURUR BRAHMAA GURUR VISHNU
GURUR DEVO MAHESHVARAH
GURUH SAAKSHAAT PARA BRAHMA
TASMAI SHREE GURAVE NAMAH

The Guru Shloka comes from the ancient Indian text, Skanda Purana,  with Lord Shiva explaining the meaning to his consort Goddess Parvati. The Shloka translation :
the  Guru/ teacher is like :

Brahma – the creator, who provides us with all knowledge & tools to perfect ourselves
Vishnu – the preserver who helps us maintain & preserve this knowledge & teachings
Maheshwara – the destroyer who helps us destroy all that is not needed or what we need to let go off for us to perfect our self

So, the Guru has the highest status, as Guru dispels all darkness. To that guru I pay my respects.

This is our prayer of thanks to all the great masters who have provided the world with knowledge, information & insights into life & Self  and continue to support all Seekers.

Individuals and societies have always aspired to attain the universal vision of a higher state of existence – sometimes succeeding and sometimes not, in achieving that goal. For millennia, there have been several evolved masters who have walked amidst us to help us along this path of evolution and left behind scores of wonderful scriptures and details as books, manuscripts which could be simple stories or complex intellectual works.  Many such beautiful works are no longer easily accessible or available for reading and understanding.

In this blog, we will strive to delve into some rare and forgotten literature to re-introduce us to our ancient wisdom.  We will, seek to uncover and explain some long forgotten scriptures which are still maintained as holy books within our beloved temples and archival libraries which have done a great job of preserving this treasure trove.

We have often gone back to ancient, source literature during our own journey of life and to make sense of the world.  Over many years, we delved into the timeless ancient scriptures of India and the teachings of great masters. We found hidden gems in the Nath literature which is typically known and accessed only by those following the Nath tradition.

We are starting this blog, with the literary works attributed to the Great Siddha Guru Gorakshnath. We will attempt to uncover the wisdom of the ages as passed down through this set of rare and forgotten literature.

During my research, I found that much of this literature is not commonly available for reading and referencing.  As I read through the books that I could find, I discovered that there are many layers of information within them – they can be interpreted from a spiritual angle, or through the angle of understanding self, developing the self and personality, ways in which one can appropriately engage with the world around us and also live life meaningfully.

Through the wisdom passed down to us by the Great Masters, we will try to revive the Siddha within each of us.

Who is a Siddha?

A Siddha in Indian tradition refers to the perfected one or Shiva.  We can define the Siddha as the alchemist – One, who has discovered practices to gain complete control over his own self and environment and has perfected his self.  A Siddha, is thus, viewed as the one who is wise, powerful, in control of his life & actions and capable of manifesting whatever he/she wishes to do.

Wisdom is a key word here.  A Siddha uses his wisdom before any action or decision.  So the Siddha acts with perfect wisdom, perfect action, perfect thinking and perfect love for self and others.

The Nath Sampradaya literature, especially that attributed to its founder, Guru Gorakshnath, emphasizes that all powers exist within.  It is for us to discover and work on it to transform our self into the Siddha or perfected one in our journey of life.

We will unveil the key book of Guru Gorakshnath titled Siddha Siddhanta Paddhati (SSP) first and foremost. Here, we will uncover for you key concepts used in the book and also each chapter.

This book carries great wisdom and explains in great detail the Supreme One – Shiva+Shakti – and the Pure existence, consciousness, love (Sat-Chit-Ananda) which manifests this whole cosmos and the individual beings within it.  The information from this book will help you, like it helped us, to reflect deeply on life and living.

We hope you will enjoy discovering the teachings as they get unfurled in the blog.  Your comments, suggestions and any information you add will be welcome to enrich this collection we plan to put together through the blog.
